Letters to Lance
When we lose our pets, it can shatter us, not even beginning to know how to go on with the pain we feel from our loss. Our pets are not “just a dog.” They are family members, the ones we can’t wait to see when we get home each day, knowing their greeting is your favorite part of the day. These cherished pets are our confidantes, our walking partner, our couch buddy. And their loss can be devastating. And we often feel alone during this time, friends who wonder why you aren’t “over it already” when the mere mention of your pet’s name causes the tears to start streaming down your face. Or they don’t mention your pet at all. Letters to Lance is a place for all pet parents who have lost a beloved pet to know their grief journey is ok and normal.
Losing Lance changed my world. My furry soulmate, the love of my life was no longer with me. And while I had some friends who understood what I was going through and checked on me, to see how I was doing, I found the grief I was going through to be a lonely process at times. Friends who I thought would be there for me were nowhere to be found and not having them there added to my hurt.
One of the ways I found to be helpful during my grief was to write letters to Lance. These letters to Lance have helped me understand my loss and stay connected to Lance. I hope the letters I have written help you during your time of mourning your pet.
